Beginnings

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:1-4 KJV

Beginnings are important. They give us insight into who we are, what we believe, how we were raised. How a person begins a task often determines how they will complete it – if they complete it at all.

Our Bible begins with Genesis – the beginning of all things. Genesis tells us who was there at the beginning:

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:1-2 KJV

God and the Spirit of God were present. Yet, we have another description of the beginning in the Gospel of John. John presents the existence of the Word who was with and was God. In these two books we find the beginning of all things. And we find that it is truly a wondrous beginning. Our Creator is named, though many deny it. Our world is formed. The path for the task of creation is laid out before us all.

What happens next fills years of success and failure, but we have in our Bible the benefit of prophecy and vision. That foreknowledge has proven the truth of the text year after year. And the text tells us what to expect: a calling up of believers and seven years of grace before the ultimate judgment.

Before that time, we desire that many will willingly bend there knee and confess Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior. That is why so many go forth to tell the Gospel – the Good News – which Jesus brought. However, when the true Bible-believing body of believers are called up to Jesus a time of testing and trial begins.

The book of Revelation gives us a glimpse -a high-level view – of the seven years before the judgment of all mankind. It will be full of war, death, strife and so much more. Yet, it is a time of grace – a second chance to come before the Lord of your own will to acknowledge Him as your Lord and Savior. Even so, it would be best to have done so before He calls up His Church to Him. To have been ready for His return.

We have a beginning. We also have an ending. We can not dictate either, but we can direct our lives to the best ending possible – to be with Jesus eternally. To know our Creator directly. To have the best possible ending which would never end.
